Boundaries of Invisibility: Degraded Images and Touchscreens (2018)

When images arrive to us in less than favorable conditions, we make thoseimperfections invisible. This essay looks at ways in which this practice of invisibility is central toour experience of looking at digital images. By providing an alternative framework forapproaching images, I argue for a mode of viewership that is not only conscious of the historiescontained within the images we look at, but also conscious of the conditions in which we arriveto these images
